Eπιστολή στο BBC για το άρθρο: «Greece’s invisible minority – the Macedonian Slavs»

Dear BBC,

On February 24, 2019, the whole planet was dumbfounded by your unhistoric article: Greece’s invisible minority – the Macedonian Slavs – BBC News and which article refers to the Prespes Agreement voted by the Parliaments of Greece and the FYROM respectively.

Although the BBC has created and distributed many documentaries that highlight Macedonia’s Hellenic identity over the ages, despite the fact that your reporter (and the rest of the world) well knows that more than 100 rallies were been held in Greece and abroad opposing the Greek Government’s initiative which resulted in the Prespes Agreement, although you know that the leftist political faction which currently forms the Greek Government does not have the majority within the House of Representatives but «borrowed» politicians from other parties to pass the Prespes Bill, yet you decided to publish an article that is proven false by all of the above facts, of which it deliberately makes no mention whatsoever.

Even under Article 2 of the «Prespes Agreement» itself it is provided that the agreement will apply over the name, language and citizenship to the citizens of FYROM only after its validated by the UN Security Council and the issuance of a common resolution of acceptance by the 29 NATO member states. These prerequisites have not been implemented at this point of time. Therefore, until the above prerequisites have been obtained, the international law dictates that our neighboring country should continue to be referred to as per its current official provisional name FYROM , in accordance with Security Council resolutions 817 of 7 April and 845 of 18 June 1993.

The prestige of a reputable and international source of media, such as the BBC (without prejudice to our rights of legal actions to be taken against you, should this article not be withdrawn) was severely damaged irreparably with such a militant, openly biased as well as baseless article. As we mentioned before, BBC itself has produced many documentaries with the contribution of well-known scientists and journalists that prove the Hellenic identity of Macedonia over the ages.

We request the review and immediate retraction of the specific documentary. If not, beyond the reservation of our legal rights of recourse against your publication, we alert BBC to the fact that this will inevitably lead to its severe depreciation in the eyes of an enormous number of educated people and organizations across the globe, either claiming Greek descent or by concerned individuals who are educated in history. We cannot also preclude the likelihood of legal proceedings being instigated against you all around the world, by aggrieved members of the public. Not to mention that, in the case that the Prespes Agreement ultimately does not achieve international validation (and therefore becomes nothing more than an empty shell), BBC will forever be exposed against the sentiments of the vast majority of the Greek people as nothing but a partisan and biased news medium targeting Greece and its Macedonian heritage.

With respectfully submit the above in deference to both BBC’s previous history and its journalistic team efforts and other achievements.
